NEW YORK (March 10, 2016)— The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) will hold its annual Spring Technical Committee Week from April 5–7 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Hotel.

The spring committee week will include technical discussions regarding the following standards:

·         A156.2 Bored & Preassembled Locks and Latches

·         A156.10 Power Operated Pedestrian Doors

·         A156.13 Mortise Locks

·         A156.22 Door Gasketing and Edge Seal Systems

·         A156.23 Electromagnetic Locks

·         A156.27 Power and Manual Operated Revolving Pedestrian Doors

Also up for discussion during this year’s committee week is A156.33—the brand new standard for battery powered locks.

Builders hardware is one of the few categories of functional hardware that are specified, since these products impact life safety and security. As such, ANSI/BHMA standards are reopened at least once every five years after their respective publication.

“BHMA is the sole organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute to develop and maintain performance standards for architectural hardware, and assessing the progress and mapping the next steps for each standard is a crucial part of our mission as an organization to protect and secure the welfare and safety of the general public,” said BHMA Executive Director, Ralph Vasami. “Builders hardware products are expected to remain operational at all times—and under all conditions—and BHMA’s robust product standards program continuously works to ensure that they do.”

Earlier this year, BHMA published the latest updates to standards A156.6 Architectural Door Trim; A156.8 Door Controls–Overhead Stops & Holders; A156.9 Cabinet Hardware; and A156.15 Release Devices. The most recent updates to all ANSI/BHMA standards can be found on the BHMA website at www.buildershardware.com/bhma-standards.

About BHMA

The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) is an industry leader in building safety and security. BHMA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain performance standards for locks, closers, exit devices and other builders hardware. The widely known ANSI/BHMA A156 series of standards describes and establishes the features and criteria for specific types of hardware products. In addition, BHMA sponsors third-party certification of hardware products, which is a requirement for a product to bear the “BHMA Certified” mark — ensuring that the product meets the ANSI/BHMA standard.
