BHMA PUBLISHES REVISED STANDARD FOR
TEMPLATE HINGE DIMENSIONS

ANSI/BHMA A156.7Provides Uniform Method for Identifying Templates for Metal Doors and Frames; Ensures Template Hinges Are Interchangeable; Includes Definitions and 24 Figures

NEW YORK, NY — The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) announces the publication of ANSI/BHMA A156.7-2003 American National Standard for Template Hinge Dimensions.

This updated standard covers template requirements for the length, width, thickness, offset, and screw hole spacing of full-mortise, full-surface, half-mortise, half-surface, slip-in and swing clear hinges. The standard defines each of these types of hinges and includes twenty-four figures for identifying the types, sizes and dimensions of the hinges. Electric hinge preparation was added in the recent edition. In addition, it provides a uniform method of template identification by providing standard template identification symbols. For example, A45MS indicates a standard weight full mortise swing clear hinge in 4½ in. (114.3 mm) size.
